Billionaire entrepreneur and close Trump ally Elon Musk is scheduled to receive a high-level briefing from the Pentagon on Friday regarding the U.S. military’s strategy in the event of a potential conflict with China, according to a report by The New York Times citing U.S. officials.
Gaining access to these highly classified military plans would significantly broaden Musk’s influence as an advisor to President Trump, particularly given his role in advocating for government spending cuts. However, the briefing also raises concerns over potential conflicts of interest, as Musk leads both Tesla and SpaceX—companies with major business ties to China and the U.S. military.
The White House has previously stated that Musk would step aside from discussions if conflicts arise between his corporate dealings and his advisory position on federal spending reductions.
According to The New York Times, the briefing will include approximately 20 to 30 slides detailing how the United States would engage in a military confrontation with China. While the Pentagon confirmed Musk’s visit, it refrained from disclosing further specifics.
"The Defense Department is pleased to welcome Elon Musk to the Pentagon on Friday," a spokesperson stated. "He was invited by Secretary Pete Hegseth and is simply making a visit."
Meanwhile, a separate Pentagon-affiliated account on X, DoD Rapid Response, dismissed the NYT report, calling the publication a "propaganda machine" reliant on "clickbait" and "FAKE news articles."
A U.S. official, speaking anonymously, clarified that Musk’s briefing will be attended by top military officials and will cover various security topics, with China being a focal point.
