Man Faces Charges After €10.6M Cocaine Bust

A man in his 60s has been charged in connection with a €10.6 million (£8.4m) cocaine seizure in the Republic of Ireland. The arrest followed a major drug interception by gardaí (Irish police) on Tuesday.

Authorities confiscated 152kg of cocaine—pending analysis—after stopping a heavy goods vehicle on the M9 in County Kilkenny shortly after 10:00 local time. In addition, searches were conducted at two business premises and a residential property in Waterford.

The suspect is set to appear before a special sitting of Gorey District Court on Sunday. His charges relate to drug trafficking under Ireland’s stringent narcotics laws.

The seizure was part of Operation Tara, a nationwide crackdown on drug-related crime. The initiative targets large-scale trafficking and organised criminal networks.

Gardaí from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau led the investigation, working alongside the Waterford Drug and Crime units. Their coordinated effort resulted in the significant drug haul.

Support for the operation came from multiple agencies, including the Revenue Customs Service, the Garda Dog Unit, and the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit. The investigation remains ongoing.
