In response to the recent violent attack on Catholic priests and laypersons in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Congress MP Dean Kuriakose has submitted a notice for an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, calling for an immediate discussion on the matter.
The assault occurred on April 1, when members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad allegedly attacked Catholic clergy and parishioners during Jubilee celebrations. Despite police intervention, senior priests, including Jabalpur Vicar General Fr. Davis and Diocesan Procurator Fr. George T., reportedly suffered physical injuries.
Expressing strong condemnation, Kuriakose described the incident as a blatant attack on religious freedom and a significant law and order failure in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. He demanded stringent legal action against the perpetrators and urged the government to ensure the protection of minority communities.
Highlighting the increasing number of hate crimes nationwide, he called for the central government to actively safeguard the fundamental rights of all citizens.
