In Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, Sister Bincy Joseph, the principal of Holy Cross Nursing College in Kunkuri, has been charged under a non-bailable section of the state's anti-conversion law.
The case was filed based on a complaint from a final-year student who alleged that Sister Bincy attempted to convert her religion. The Catholic Church has refuted these claims, stating that the student had poor attendance, with only 32% presence in practical and theory classes.
Sister Bincy had reportedly contacted the student and her family to address the attendance issue, emphasizing the requirement of at least 80% attendance to be eligible for examinations. While the student was permitted to sit for the theory exam, the college maintained that they couldn't certify her for the practical exam due to insufficient attendance.
Following this, the student lodged a complaint with the district collector, leading to the current legal action against Sister Bincy.
