Mananthavady: As part of the observance of the 40th Friday of the Great Lent, a solemn walking pilgrimage and sacrament of absolution will take place on April 11 at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Kaniyaram, under the banner Gagultha 2K25.
The event is being organized collaboratively by the Dwarka, Kallodi, Payyampally, and Mananthavady Foranas of the Diocese of Mananthavady, marking a spiritual journey of penance and unity during the sacred Lenten season. Pilgrims will begin their journey from designated Forana centers at 4:30 PM, converging at the cathedral by 7:00 PM for the communal reconciliation service.
The faithful will be joined by Mar Jose Porunnedam, Bishop of Mananthavady, Auxiliary Bishop Mar Alex Tharamangalam, along with priests, monks, and parishioners from various parts of the diocese, adding spiritual depth and collective devotion to the event.
Spiritual leadership for the pilgrimage will be provided by Fr. Soni Vazhakattu, Vicar of Kaniyaram Cathedral; Fr. Sebastian Elamkunnel, Vicar of Payyampally Forona; Fr. Saji Kottaiyil, Vicar of Kallodi Forona; and Fr. Babu Moothedathu, Vicar of Dwarka Forona, alongside other clergy.
The pilgrimage is especially meaningful this year, as it coincides with the Jubilee Year celebrations of the global Catholic Church — a time marked by spiritual renewal, mercy, and reconciliation.
To ensure comfort and accessibility for all participants, a simple Lenten meal will be served to the pilgrims. In addition, KSRTC has made special travel arrangements for the faithful to return to their homes after the event.
Gagultha 2K25 invites all believers to come together in faith, repentance, and community spirit, as they walk the path of sacrifice and reflection during this sacred season.
