Mananthavady: On April 11, the faithful gathered for a solemn walking pilgrimage and sacrament of absolution at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Kaniyaram, as part of the observance of the 40th Friday of the Great Lent, under the banner Gagultha 2K25.

The event was a collaborative effort organized by the Dwarka, Kallodi, Payyampally, and Mananthavady Foranas of the Diocese of Mananthavady. It marked a significant spiritual journey of penance and unity during the sacred Lenten season. Pilgrims began their journey from designated Forana centers at 4:30 PM and converged at the cathedral by 7:00 PM for the communal reconciliation service.

The service was attended by Mar Jose Porunnedam, Bishop of Mananthavady, Auxiliary Bishop Mar Alex Tharamangalam, along with priests, monks, and parishioners from various parts of the diocese. Their presence added spiritual depth and collective devotion to the event.

The pilgrimage was led by Fr. Soni Vazhakattu, Vicar of Kaniyaram Cathedral; Fr. Sebastian Elamkunnel, Vicar of Payyampally Forona; Fr. Saji Kottaiyil, Vicar of Kallodi Forona; and Fr. Babu Moothedathu, Vicar of Dwarka Forona, along with other clergy members.

This year, the pilgrimage was particularly significant as it coincided with the Jubilee Year celebrations of the global Catholic Church — a time of spiritual renewal, mercy, and reconciliation.

To ensure the comfort of all participants, a simple Lenten meal was served to the pilgrims. Additionally, KSRTC made special travel arrangements to assist the faithful in returning home after the event.

Gagultha 2K25 brought believers together in faith, repentance, and community spirit, as they walked the path of sacrifice and reflection during this sacred season.
