In a recent development, an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft, part of the ongoing relief operations in response to the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, was subjected to a cyber attack during its mission. The aircraft, a C-130J, encountered GPS spoofing while flying over Myanmar, which caused the aircraft's navigation system to malfunction and risk misdirecting the plane.

The crew, however, swiftly switched to the internal navigation system, successfully ensuring the aircraft’s safety. The incident took place while the aircraft was part of Operation Brahma, a humanitarian mission launched by India in response to the catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025. The earthquake resulted in widespread destruction, with significant casualties and damage across the region.

India, acting as a first responder, has sent 15 tonnes of vital relief materials, including tents, blankets, sleeping bags, ready-to-eat meals, water purifiers, solar lamps, generator sets, and essential medicines. These items are intended to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the disaster. The response underscores India’s commitment to supporting its neighbors during times of crisis.

The cyber attack on the IAF aircraft highlights the growing challenges faced during such humanitarian missions.
