The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, announcing a three-day mourning period to honor his memory. Churches have been instructed to hoist black flags as a mark of respect.
His Eminence Baselios Joseph, Catholicos offered heartfelt condolences, describing Pope Francis as a beacon of peace whose voice resonated across the world. "The world yearned to hear him speak, and now, that voice is silent—it is a pain we all feel deeply," he said.
Remembered for his extraordinary humility and unwavering patience, Pope Francis passed away while in recovery from bronchitis. He had been discharged from the hospital on March 23 following a prolonged 35-day treatment. His final public appearance was during Easter Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square.
In his last Easter address, the Pope passionately appealed for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and extended his prayers to those enduring suffering in both Palestine and Israel. He called on the global community to stand with the hungry and oppressed.
