Samsung is reportedly on the brink of launching its first tri-fold smartphone, marking a bold expansion of its foldable device lineup. Although the company previously confirmed development of a tri-fold display device, it has remained tight-lipped about the specifics—until now. A fresh leak from prominent tipster Digital Chat Station has shed light on key features, including display specs, design nuances, and performance expectations.
Dubbed the Galaxy G Fold, the upcoming smartphone is rumored to feature a 9.9-inch display when fully unfolded—just shy of Huawei's 10.2-inch Mate XT, the first tri-fold smartphone to hit global markets. Notably, Samsung may distinguish its device with a dual inner-folding mechanism, which could offer superior protection and screen durability compared to the Mate XT’s more vulnerable outward-folding design.
Charging speed may be one of the device's few drawbacks, with leaks suggesting a relatively modest power range between 23W and 24W—lagging behind the 100W+ benchmarks set by other premium smartphones.
As for pricing, the Galaxy G Fold is expected to carry a premium tag comparable to the Mate XT's $2,800 launch price. This aligns with Samsung’s track record of pushing the envelope—and the budget—on cutting-edge foldables.
While the launch window is still under wraps, sources indicate that a release may be slated for early 2026, slightly later than initial forecasts of late 2025. The rollout may begin in markets like China and South Korea, with a wider global debut following based on regional demand.
Samsung is anticipated to unveil more about the Galaxy G Fold at its next Unpacked event, where it’s also expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and a budget-friendly Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
