Terrorists Conducted Reconnaissance in Baisaran Before Pahalgam Attack: Sources Says

In a chilling development, sources have revealed that the terrorists responsible for the deadly attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley had scouted the area two days prior to the incident. This premeditated reconnaissance underscores the calculated nature of the assault that claimed the lives of 26 tourists and injured over 20 others on April 22, 2025.

According to reports, the militants, armed with AK-47s and M4 carbines, infiltrated the Baisaran meadow—a popular tourist destination known for its scenic beauty and referred to as 'Mini Switzerland'—and opened fire on unsuspecting visitors. Eyewitnesses recounted that the assailants, some dressed in military uniforms, emerged from the surrounding dense forests and began shooting indiscriminately at tourists who were picnicking, taking pony rides, or enjoying the serene environment.

Investigations have identified two local individuals, Adil Guree from Anantnag and Aasif Shaikh from Sopore, as suspects involved in the attack. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently verifying leads provided by local police to ascertain the full extent of their involvement.

Further intelligence suggests that the attackers had also conducted reconnaissance of three other sites in Jammu and Kashmir before selecting Baisaran for the assault. The choice of Baisaran, accessible only by foot or pony and lacking vehicular access, likely contributed to the high casualty rate by hindering swift rescue operations.

In response to the attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site to review the security situation and met with senior civil and military officials. He also paid respects to the victims and assured their families that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from international leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who emphasized that attacks against civilians are unacceptable under any circumstances.

As investigations continue, the incident has raised serious concerns about security lapses and the need for heightened vigilance in tourist areas within the region.
