In a bold move amidst escalating India-Pakistan tensions, Baloch writer Mir Yar Baloch has proclaimed Balochistan's independence from Pakistan and called for international recognition. In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Baloch urged the United Nations to deploy peacekeeping forces to the region and demanded the withdrawal of the Pakistani military from Balochistan. He also appealed to the Indian government to establish a Baloch embassy in New Delhi.
This declaration comes in the wake of heightened hostilities between India and Pakistan. On May 7, India launched "Operation Sindoor," targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), while ensuring that no Pakistani military infrastructure was hit. Pakistan retaliated by launching a series of drone, missile, and artillery attacks on Indian civilian and military sites. India responded by intercepting the incoming threats and downing several Pakistani aircraft.
Mir Yar Baloch's call for independence and international intervention adds a new dimension to the already volatile situation in the region. His appeal for UN peacekeepers and a Baloch diplomatic presence in India underscores the growing aspirations of Baloch nationalists for self-determination and international recognition.
