The Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Pope Leo XIV following his election as the 267th leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
In a message marked by deep faith and fraternity, the bishops voiced their sincere gratitude to the new Pontiff for accepting the profound responsibility of leading the global Catholic community. Recognizing the weight of the office, they pledged their steadfast support and spiritual solidarity with the Holy Father, assuring him of their ongoing prayers as he embarks on his sacred mission.
Encouraging Pope Leo XIV to place his full trust in the Lord—who has called him and promises to walk with him—the bishops prayed that he be endowed with wisdom, strength, and courage. They invoked divine grace to empower him in nurturing the peace he highlighted in his first public message as Pope.
The SACBC also expressed a hopeful vision for Pope Leo XIV’s papacy, desiring that his leadership foster deeper unity within the Church, strengthen the faith of believers, and provide steadfast guidance to the faithful across the world amid these challenging times.
The message, released through Vatican News, was signed by Archbishop Zolile Peter Mpambani of Bloemfontein, who also serves as the First Vice President of the SACBC.
