The Holy See Press Office has released the official schedule for Pope Leo XIV, outlining his activities over the coming weeks, including his inaugural Mass and initial meetings with Church leaders, diplomats, and the faithful.
Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural Mass to mark the beginning of his pontificate will take place on Sunday, May 18 at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Square. The liturgy is expected to draw a large gathering of pilgrims and dignitaries from around the world.
His schedule begins with a meeting with the Cardinals on Saturday, May 10. The following day, Sunday, May 11, he will lead the Regina Caeli prayer from the Central Loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica. On Monday, May 12, the Pope will meet with members of the international press.
On Friday, May 16, Pope Leo XIV will address the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See. After the inaugural Mass on May 18, he will begin taking formal possession of the major papal basilicas, starting with St. Paul Outside the Walls on Tuesday, May 20. His first General Audience is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21. On Saturday, May 24, he will meet with members of the Roman Curia and employees of Vatican City State. On Sunday, May 25, he will lead the Regina Caeli and take possession of the basilicas of St. John Lateran and St. Mary Major.
In a related announcement, the Holy See stated that all current heads and members of the Roman Curia, along with the secretaries and the president of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State, will continue in their respective roles on a provisional basis, donec aliter provideatur (until otherwise provided).
Pope Leo XIV has emphasized his intention to take time for reflection, prayer, and dialogue before making any definitive appointments or confirmations. The coming weeks will mark the early steps of his papal ministry and provide insight into the direction of his leadership.
