US Vice President JD Vance Urges PM Modi to Pursue Ceasefire Amid Rising India Pakistan Tensions; Sources Says

In a significant diplomatic move, US Vice President JD Vance reached out to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the receipt of alarming intelligence concerning escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan. The intelligence suggested a high probability of dramatic escalation if the situation continued unchecked over the weekend. Vance's call aimed to encourage direct dialogue between India and Pakistan to explore de-escalation options.

This intervention comes in the wake of a deadly militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants, leading to retaliatory strikes and a rapid escalation of military activities across the border.

Following Vance's outreach, a US-mediated ceasefire was announced on May 10, 2025, with both nations agreeing to halt military actions. However, the truce's stability was quickly challenged, with reports of fresh cross-border shelling and mutual accusations of violations surfacing shortly after the agreement.

The situation underscores the fragile nature of peace in the region and the critical role of international diplomacy in preventing further escalation. While the ceasefire offers a temporary respite, the path to lasting peace remains uncertain amidst deep-rooted tensions and mistrust between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
