Ather Energy Narrows Q4 Loss Amid Surging Demand for Rizta Scooter

Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy has reported a significant reduction in its fourth-quarter losses, buoyed by robust demand for its family-oriented electric scooter, the Rizta. The company announced a net loss of ₹2.34 billion (approximately $28 million) for the quarter ending March 2025, an improvement from the ₹2.83 billion loss recorded during the same period the previous year.

This positive shift coincides with Ather's recent debut on the stock market, signaling growing investor confidence. The Rizta scooter, which has rapidly gained popularity, played a pivotal role in this financial turnaround. In October 2024 alone, Ather achieved its highest-ever monthly dispatches, with over 20,000 scooters shipped nationwide, approximately 60-70% of which were Rizta models.

Financially, Ather's revenue for the quarter surged by 29% to ₹6.76 billion, while expenses increased by a more modest 12.6%. Sales figures also reflected this upward trajectory, with a 13.4% year-on-year increase.

Strategically, Ather is focusing on expanding its presence in India's northern and western regions, areas that have shown promising growth potential. The company is also investing in a new production platform aimed at reducing manufacturing costs, a move that could further enhance profitability.

Despite these gains, Ather faces challenges, including intensified competition from better-funded rivals like Ola Electric and legacy manufacturers with broader distribution networks. However, with backing from Hero MotoCorp and a clear strategy centered on innovation and market expansion, Ather is positioning itself to capitalize on the growing demand for electric two-wheelers in India.

Following the earnings announcement, Ather's shares experienced a 3.3% uptick, reflecting market optimism about the company's direction and growth prospects.

As the electric vehicle market in India continues to evolve, Ather Energy's focus on product innovation, strategic expansion, and cost optimization positions it as a formidable player poised for sustained growth.
