Cochin International Airport is undergoing a complete digital overhaul through the ‘CIAL 2.0’ initiative, which integrates artificial intelligence, automation, and fortified cyber security. This transformation will significantly expedite security processes, including baggage handling and body scanning.
With an investment of ₹200 crore, the project will be inaugurated by Chief Minister and CIAL Chairman Pinarayi Vijayan at 5 PM on the 19th at the CIAL Convention Center. Managing Director S. Suhas described the initiative as a milestone in the airport’s evolution.
Key technological enhancements include:
A local Cyber Defense Operations Center (C-DOC) that monitors, detects, and mitigates cyber threats across all airport systems.
Installation of full-body scanners for faster, contactless security checks, and an automated tray return mechanism to streamline cabin baggage inspection.
Deployment of 4,000 AI-driven surveillance cameras to enhance security within and around the airport.
Upgrades to the Bomb Detection and Disposal Unit, now equipped with liquid explosive sensors and containment vessels.
Modernization of the airport’s core systems—including the flight information display, public announcement system, passenger processing systems, and digital services like facial recognition, baggage tracking, Digi Yatra, and prepaid taxi kiosks.
Aero Digital Summit
Coinciding with the launch, the Aero Digital Summit will run from 2:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the CIAL Convention Center. The event will highlight advanced IT systems, feature robotics and VR exhibits, interactive tech activities, and a panel discussion titled “Future of Technology and Innovation in Airports.”
