Changanassery: The 139th Archdiocese Day of the Archdiocese of Changanassery culminated in a vibrant and spiritually uplifting celebration that brought together nearly half a million faithful from across the region. Held at the expansive Cardinal Mar Antony Padiyara Nagar within the premises of St. Mary’s Metropolitan Church, the event marked one of the most significant gatherings in the Syro-Malabar Catholic calendar.

Representatives from around 300 parishes, including members from approximately 80,000 families, joined hands with religious sisters, monastic orders, and clergy serving in the Archdiocese to mark this milestone in faith and service. The celebration became a testament to the unity, tradition, and enduring spirit of the Changanassery Catholic community.

The general assembly was presided over by Archbishop Mar Thomas Tharayil, who also delivered the presidential address. The formal inauguration was conducted by Bishop Mar John Nellikunnel of the Idukki Diocese, adding further spiritual grace to the occasion. The keynote speech was delivered by Fr. Dr. Jose Chennattussery CMI, Vice Chancellor of Christ University, Bangalore, who emphasized the vital role of faith in shaping education, society, and ethical leadership. Archbishop Mar Joseph Perumthottam blessed the gathering with a benediction message, closing the liturgical segment of the event on a solemn note.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of the Excellence Award, the Archdiocese’s highest honor. Metropolitan Archbishop Mar Thomas Tharayil bestowed this award upon two distinguished individuals: Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas, former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University and a globally recognized expert in polymer nanotechnology, and Dr. George Padanilam, a renowned medical practitioner and philanthropist, celebrated for his lifelong contributions to healthcare and social welfare.

In addition to the top honors, several other individuals who had shown exceptional dedication in various fields were recognized with special awards. Notably, the Changanassery Archdiocesan Pravasi Apostolate Oman Chapter received a special commendation for their continued commitment to faith-based service abroad.

The day concluded with cultural performances and artistic presentations that reflected the heritage, devotion, and communal joy of the Changanassery Archdiocese. With prayers, honors, and unity, the 139th Archdiocese Day ended on a high note, reaffirming the Church’s mission of faith, service, and stewardship.
