Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for four districts in Kerala Idukki, Ernakulam, Kannur, and Kasaragod forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, district collectors have declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including schools, anganwadis, madrasas, tuition centers, and professional colleges, in the affected districts. However, previously scheduled examinations are expected to proceed as planned.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid travel during the alert period. Authorities have cautioned against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions and have urged vigilance in landslide-prone areas. The IMD has also warned of strong surface winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h, which could exacerbate the risk of traffic disruptions, tree falls, flash floods, and damage to vulnerable structures.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities. For the latest updates and safety information, residents are advised to follow official government notifications and local news outlets.
