Kochi: The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Conference (KCBC) is gearing up for its monsoon session, scheduled to take place on June 3, 4, and 5 at the Pastoral Orientation Centre (POC) in Palarivattom, the central hub of the Catholic Church in Kerala.
The event will commence on June 3 at 10:00 AM with the joint gathering of KCBC and the Major Superiors of religious congregations. The session will be formally inaugurated by KCBC President, Cardinal Baselios Cleemis Catholicos. Bishop Dr. Polly Kannukkadan, Chair of the KCBC Religious Commission, will preside over the inaugural ceremony.
A highlight of the day will be a thematic session led by Dr. Saju Chakkalakkal on “The Role of Religious Leaders in Fostering Synodality”. This session will explore how leaders within consecrated communities can actively contribute to the synodal journey of the Church.
At noon, a significant cultural and spiritual moment will take place as Cardinal Cleemis officially releases the revised edition of the POC Malayalam Bible by presenting the first copy to veteran academic and literary figure Prof. M.K. Sanu.
The formal proceedings of the KCBC will begin later that day at 5:00 PM. The sessions on June 4 and 5 will delve into critical areas including Church reform efforts, strategies for observing the Jubilee Year 2025, and framing the Church’s stance on key social and ecclesial issues currently facing Kerala.
The conference will witness the participation of bishops from every Catholic diocese across the state, bringing together a broad spectrum of leadership voices within the Church. Discussions are expected to shape not only the direction of Church activities but also influence its engagement with societal challenges in the state.
