Historic Kickoff of the 2026 Syro Malabar Jubilee Convention Held at Chicago Cathedral

Chicago: In a celebration filled with faith, unity, and historic significance, the official kickoff of the 2026 Syro Malabar Jubilee Convention was held yesterday at St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Cathedral in Chicago.

The event was spiritually led and coordinated by Fr. Thomas Kadukappillil, Vicar General and Cathedral Vicar, and Fr. John Melepuram, Syncellus (Vicar General) of the Diocese, who ensured the program’s reverence and spiritual depth.


The day began with a solemn Holy Qurbana presided over by His Beatitude Mar Raphael Thattil, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, who offered his blessings and delivered an inspiring homily, urging:

“If you love Jesus, collaborate in building the Church.”

This call to action set the tone for the Jubilee kickoff, reminding all that this convention is not just an event—but a movement to build the Church through love, unity, and committed participation.

Also present was His Excellency Mar Joy Alappatt, Bishop of the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Chicago, who offered words of encouragement and gratitude.

Bishop Emeritus Mar Jacob Angadiath also joined the celebration, extending his blessings and support.


A Unified Launch of Faith and Commitment

Following the Qurbana, a vibrant Jubilee Convention Kickoff Program was held. Over 125 families personally submitted their 2026 Jubilee Convention registration forms to the Major Archbishop—an act of heartfelt dedication to the Church’s future.

Mr. Raji Mathew, Registration Convener, efficiently coordinated and collected the registration forms, ensuring a smooth and meaningful presentation.

During the event, the Convention Committee recognized and received the first sponsorship check from Mega Sponsor Mr. Febin & Mrs. Liz Mootheril, President & CEO of XeV LLC and Energativ Solutions LLC, marking a significant milestone in the convention’s journey.

Convention Leadership at the Forefront
• Jubilee Chairman Mr. Jose Chamakala, CPA delivered the welcome address, reflecting on the spiritual and historical significance of the Eparchy’s 25-year journey.
• Convention Chairman Mr. Bigi C. Mani outlined the broader vision of the Jubilee, inspiring unity and collaboration.
• Mr. Andrew P. Thomas, CPA, who also serves as Convention Finance Chairman, emphasized transparency, stewardship, and financial readines
• Facility Chairman Mr. Johny Vadakkumcherry, with over 15 years of experience in hospitality operations, assured a world-class execution of the 2026 event.
• Youth Lead Mr. David Joseph energized the crowd by inviting all early registrants to the stage, recognizing their commitment.

The entire event was masterfully emceed by Mr. Saji Varghese, Public Relations Chairman, who wove together the spiritual message and organizational purpose with clarity and enthusiasm.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The program concluded with a grand Sneha Virunnu, bringing hundreds together in joyful fellowship and celebration.

The 2026 Jubilee Convention will be held at McCormick Place, Chicago, and is expected to be the largest and most historic gathering in Syro-Malabar USA history.
