Pope Leo XIV at Pentecost Regina Caeli: May the Holy Spirit Lead Us to Peace and Reconciliation

Vatican City: On the vibrant feast of Pentecost, which draws the curtain on the Easter season, Pope Leo XIV led the faithful in praying the Regina Caeli in St. Peter’s Square. With thousands gathered before him and many more joining from around the world, the Pope’s words echoed a resounding plea for healing in a world fractured by conflict.

As he addressed the pilgrims, the Holy Father emphasized the power of the Holy Spirit to inspire peace and heal the wounds of war. “Let us call upon the Spirit for the gift of peace,” the Pope urged. “First and foremost, peace within our hearts—because only a heart at peace can bring peace into families, society, and across nations.”

Pope Leo made a heartfelt appeal for reconciliation in regions torn apart by war, highlighting the Spirit’s ability to guide those in power toward peace. “May the Spirit of the Risen Christ open new pathways of dialogue where there is division, and may leaders receive light and courage to choose de-escalation over violence,” he said.

The Pope extended special thanks to the many ecclesial groups, lay movements, and new communities who had come together in Rome to celebrate their Jubilee Year as part of the 2025 Holy Year celebrations. He acknowledged the spiritual vibrancy they bring to the Church and encouraged them to take their mission forward.

“Dear brothers and sisters,” he said warmly, “may you leave this Jubilee renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Go forth and be messengers of Christ’s hope and joy to all you meet!”

In a lighter and affectionate gesture, Pope Leo also turned his thoughts to students and educators around the world, especially those wrapping up their academic year. “A special greeting goes to all students and teachers, particularly those preparing for final examinations,” he said. “I pray for calm minds, joyful hearts, and fruitful efforts as you look ahead to your next steps.”

As the Pope concluded the Regina Caeli prayer, his message was clear: the Spirit of Pentecost is not confined to the past, but continues to breathe peace, courage, and renewal into the life of the Church and the world. His final blessing was a call to action: “Let the Spirit guide your steps in love, unity, and mission.”
