Educational Institutions Closed in Kannur and Kasaragod Amid Heavy Rain Alert

Thiruvananthapuram: With fresh warnings of intense monsoon activity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Kerala starting June 14. In response to the alert, district administrations in Kannur and Kasaragod have declared a holiday for all educational institutions this Saturday and Sunday.

The directive applies to professional colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, coaching centers, madrasas, and anganwadis. Authorities have also instructed that no special classes should be held during this period.

The Central Meteorological Department has sounded red and orange alerts for multiple districts over the next five days due to the possibility of severe weather conditions. The anticipated heavy downpour raises the risk of flash floods, landslides, and urban waterlogging, prompting officials to urge the public to remain vigilant.

Specifically, a red alert has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod on June 14, while June 15 will see red alerts in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The state remains on high alert as the southwest monsoon strengthens.
