Vatican City: The acclaimed television series The Chosen, which chronicles the life of Jesus Christ and His apostles, is set to make a landmark appearance at the Vatican next week. On June 23, the cast and creators of the series will host a special presentation of the fourth episode from the upcoming fifth season, titled The Last Supper.
The Holy See Press Office has confirmed that the presentation will take place at 11:30 a.m. in Marconi Hall, with the series' key actors and production team addressing the media. Among those attending will be Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in the series, alongside Dallas Jenkins, the series creator and director; Elizabeth Tabish, who portrays Mary Magdalene; George Xanthis, who plays the apostle John; and Vanessa Benavente, who plays the Virgin Mary.
The press conference will delve into the global impact of The Chosen, which has found resonance across religious and secular audiences alike, with studies indicating that over 30% of its viewers are nonbelievers. The team will also share insights into the upcoming The Chosen feature films that will focus on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Notably, the crucifixion scenes are currently being filmed in Matera, Italy, a location known for its historical biblical landscapes.
Later that day, at 5:00 p.m., the Vatican Film Library will host the premiere of The Same Coin, the fourth episode of the fifth season. This episode is said to contain one of the series’ most emotionally powerful scenes to date a depiction of the women’s last supper, highlighted by the traditional Jewish Dayenu hymn sung during Passover.
In a gesture of gratitude and reverence, Jonathan Roumie is also scheduled to meet Pope Leo XIV during the General Audience on June 25. Roumie, who met with Pope Francis on two separate occasions during his papacy, will present a special gift from The Chosen to the new pontiff.
The Vatican visit underscores the series' spiritual and cultural influence, as it continues to bridge faith, art, and storytelling with a contemporary audience.
