Bogotá: As Colombia grapples with mounting political turmoil and violent unrest, the faithful are turning to prayer in an unprecedented spiritual initiative. On Saturday, June 28, believers across the country will lift their hearts in unison, offering one million rosaries for peace under the banner "One Million Rosaries, One Voice."
The campaign, led by Archbishop Daniel Bustamante of Bogotá, comes as the nation reels from a series of crises, including terrorist attacks in the troubled Coca and Valle del Coca regions and the recent assassination attempt on presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbe, who remains in critical condition.
Speaking to ACI Prensa, Archbishop Bustamante urged Colombians to embrace this moment as a spiritual call to action. “This is a time for us to come together, regardless of where we are, and lift our voices to heaven,” he said. “We believe peace begins on our knees in faith, not fear.”
The rosaries will be prayed from churches, schools, Marian groups, homes, workplaces, and community centers across Colombia. The organizers have emphasized that location doesn’t matter what matters is the unity of intention and spirit. Whether alone or in groups, all faithful are encouraged to pause and pray for peace in the nation.
Clergy from numerous dioceses are expected to participate alongside Archbishop Bustamante, who will lead the main service. The initiative reflects a growing sentiment among Colombians that lasting peace must begin with spiritual renewal, especially as the country faces rising violence and division.
With violence deepening and political tensions soaring, Colombia now looks toward this massive gesture of faith a million beads, a million hearts, one cry for peace.
