Asian Paints Acquires Full Ownership of White Teak with ₹188 Crore Buyout

Asian Paints has completed the acquisition of the remaining 40 percent stake in Obgenix Software Private Limited, known as White Teak, for ₹188 crore. With this purchase, Asian Paints now holds 100 percent ownership of the premium lighting and home décor brand. The acquisition was announced through a stock exchange filing on June 27, 2025.

This marks the final stage of a multi-phase investment in White Teak. Asian Paints initially acquired a 49 percent stake in April 2022, followed by an 11 percent increase in June 2023, bringing its shareholding to 60 percent. The latest transaction for the remaining stake involves the purchase of 160,400 equity shares from White Teak's co-founders, Pawan Mehta and Gagan Mehta.

White Teak, known for its upscale decorative lighting, fans, and home accessories, will now operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asian Paints. This move aligns with the company's strategic goal of becoming a comprehensive home décor solutions provider. The acquisition enhances Asian Paints' presence in the interior design and lighting segment, complementing its existing offerings in paints, coatings, bath fittings, and furniture.

Financial analysts estimate the total enterprise value of White Teak to be around ₹470 crore. Despite a challenging quarter for Asian Paints, with Q4 FY25 revenue dipping by approximately 4.3 percent year-on-year to around ₹8,330–8,360 crore and a sharp fall in net profit by 45 percent, the company's stock saw a 3 percent rise after the announcement, closing at ₹2,359.25 on the BSE.

While the acquisition has been positively received in the market, some analysts, including those from Citi, remain cautious. Citi has retained a "Sell" recommendation on Asian Paints with a target price of ₹2,100, citing concerns over core business pressures.

With the complete integration of White Teak, Asian Paints strengthens its footprint in the premium home décor sector. The acquisition provides the company with a platform to offer end-to-end interior solutions, positioning it to better compete in an evolving consumer market where design, lifestyle, and aesthetics play a growing role in home improvement choices.
