Kalpetta: Embracing the slogan "Life is the Real Drug," the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) of the Mananthavady Diocese organized a spirited Mud Football Tournament to mark the commemoration of St. Thomas More and St. Paul the Apostle. The event, filled with energy and social relevance, was hosted by the Vilampukandam Unit.
The tournament was inaugurated by Fr. Jijo Palattukunnel, Regional Director of Payyampally, during a vibrant ceremony presided over by Diocesan President Bibin Pillapilly. With active participation from multiple KCYM units, the competition transformed into an electrifying celebration of sportsmanship, community spirit, and a clear message against drug abuse.
The Kattikkulam Unit emerged victorious, clinching first place, followed by Vilampukandam Unit in second, and Meenangadi Unit in third. Winners were awarded trophies in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment to the tournament’s inspiring message.
The event saw the presence and leadership of several key diocesan figures, including Fr. Santro Ambalathara (Diocesan Director), Ashna Palarikunnel (Vice President), Naveen Pulakkudyil (Treasurer), and Sr. Ross Tom SABS (Animator). Their dedication added spiritual and organizational depth to the initiative.
Other prominent attendees included Fr. Jojo Kudukkachira (Thariyod Regional Director), Fr. Mathew Madappallikunnel (Vilampukandam Unit Director), Fr. Vinod Pakkanikkuzhiyil (Kattikkulam Unit Director), Fr. Justin Muthanikkattu (Puthiyidamkunnu Unit Director), and Fr. Christy Puthakkuzhiyil (Associate Vicar, Nadavayal) all of whom played vital roles in guiding the youth and facilitating the event.
Adding to the leadership presence were Diocesan Syndicate members Jishin Mundakkathathil and Ebin Shaji Muzhiyankal, who actively supported and coordinated various aspects of the program.
Beyond being a sports competition, the tournament served as a platform for promoting a drug-free lifestyle, uniting youth through positive engagement and community values. The event highlighted the power of faith-based youth movements in shaping responsible, socially committed generations.
