Kakkanad: The Syro-Malabar Church commemorated the Dukrana (martyrdom remembrance) of Mar Thoma Sleeha with solemnity and reverence at Mount St. Thomas, the Major Archiepiscopal Curia in Kakkanad, the spiritual headquarters of the Church.
His Beatitude Mar Raphael Thattil, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, presided over the solemn Raza Qurbana, joined by the Curia Bishop and a large number of priests. The liturgy was deeply prayerful and spiritually uplifting, drawing together priests, religious, and laity in remembrance of the Apostle who first proclaimed the Gospel on Indian soil.
As part of the Church Day Celebrations, a public meeting followed the liturgical services at the curia auditorium. The event saw vibrant participation from across the Church community. In his keynote message, Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil urged the faithful to renew their commitment to the apostolic mission and to be fearless witnesses of Christ in today’s challenging world. Prominent Church leaders, commission members, and representatives of lay organizations also extended greetings and offered words of encouragement.
A highlight of the event was the special recognition of Dr. Jose Chacko Periyapuram, an eminent cardiologist and a prominent member of the Syro-Malabar faithful. He was honoured for his exceptional contributions to the medical field and his unwavering service to the Church over the years.
The celebration was a profound reminder of the spiritual and missionary heritage of St. Thomas the Apostle, inspiring the faithful to continue living out their faith with courage, unity, and dedication.
