Kremlin: Time Needed to Determine Scope of U.S. Arms to Ukraine After Trump’s Statement

Moscow: The Kremlin stated on Tuesday that it would take time to gain a clear picture of the nature and volume of weapons the United States is sending to Ukraine, following comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting further arms shipments to Kyiv.

On Monday, Trump remarked that Washington would continue supplying Ukraine with military equipment, focusing mainly on defensive weaponry to help resist ongoing Russian offensives.

Responding to those remarks, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted the existence of mixed and sometimes conflicting reports regarding American arms deliveries. However, he acknowledged that weapons from European nations were still flowing steadily into Ukraine.

“There’s no doubt that European countries remain deeply engaged in arming Ukraine,” Peskov said. “When it comes to U.S. deliveries, especially the specifics of what is being sent and in what quantities, it will take some time to arrive at a complete understanding.”

As Russian forces push forward on multiple fronts, Moscow maintains control over nearly 20% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, the entirety of Luhansk, major portions of three additional regions, and parts of three more.

Peskov also addressed Trump’s suggestion of reviving direct dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv, saying the Kremlin appreciated such efforts and saw potential for renewed engagement with Washington on broader economic and trade matters.

“President Trump’s inclination toward direct Russia-Ukraine talks is noted positively,” Peskov added. “There is significant untapped potential in restoring Russian-American trade relations.”

However, he criticized current U.S. policies, saying, “At present, the United States continues to enforce various sanctions, which we view as unlawful. These restrictions are damaging not only to Russian businesses but also to American companies.”

The Kremlin’s cautious tone signals Moscow’s watchful approach to evolving U.S. policy under Trump’s potential leadership and ongoing Western military support to Ukraine.
