Notre Dame Cathedral Draws Over 6 Million Visitors in Just Six Months

Paris: Half a year after its grand reopening following a devastating 2019 fire, Notre Dame Cathedral has already welcomed more than six million visitors, with daily footfalls averaging around 35,000. Reopened to the public on December 7, 2024, the cathedral’s renewed appeal could push total visits to a record-breaking 12 million by the end of 2025 surpassing even pre-fire numbers and potentially dethroning the Eiffel Tower as France’s most visited monument.

Despite this influx, restoration is ongoing. The famed cathedral's chevet, flying buttresses, and sacristy remain under careful reconstruction. Plans include installing new stained-glass windows in 2026 and completing upgrades to the forecourt and surrounding green areas by 2027.

The ongoing work blends heritage conservation with a renewed vision for accessibility and beauty, further enhancing the cathedral’s status as a spiritual and architectural icon.
