POC to Commemorate 40th Death Anniversary of Poet Sister Mary Beninja

Kochi: The 40th death anniversary of the distinguished poet Sister Mary Beninja (Mary John Thottam) will be solemnly marked at the POC’s literary platform, Vangmayam. Renowned for her deep imprint on Malayalam literature through two epic poems, ten short compositions, and over 250 devotional Bhava songs, Sister Beninja's legacy continues to resonate through generations.

To honour her contributions, a colloquium titled "The Poetic Universe of Sister Mary Beninja" will be held on July 15 at 5 PM. The event will be inaugurated by noted writer and literary critic Dr. Rathi Menon. Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplani will chair the session.

Scholars including Dr. Mathew Ilanji, Prof. V.G. Thampi, and Sister Dr. Noel Rose will offer critical insights and reflections on Sister Beninja’s body of work. Widely regarded as a literary visionary, Sister Beninja infused the Malayalam poetic tradition with imaginative depth and lyrical elegance, skillfully bridging the charm of fiction with the soul of poetry.
