Latin Catholic Council to Establish Local Political Committees for Coordinated Action

Kochi: In a decisive shift toward political engagement ahead of the forthcoming elections, the Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC) has resolved to form grassroots-level political committees. These committees will operate at the panchayat, municipal, and city corporation levels to streamline and coordinate political activities within the community.

The Council has also called for direct protest initiatives to pressure authorities into removing bureaucratic barriers that hinder Latin Catholics from obtaining community certificates. The assembly questioned the unexplained delay in releasing the Justice J.B. Koshy Commission report and demanded immediate reinstatement of land rights for Munambam families.

Emphasizing the urgency of coastal protection, the assembly urged the government to expedite the construction of the sea wall from Chellanam to Fort Kochi and allocate necessary funding for its completion.

Additionally, the Council strongly opposed what it described as government interference in the administration of minority-run educational institutions. KRLCC Vice President Joseph Judd introduced the political resolution, while General Secretary Rev. Dr. Jiju George Arakkathara presented the annual activity report.

Treasurer Biju Josy detailed the financial report, and KLCA State President Adv. Sherry J. Thomas delivered the committee's political affairs report. The convocation address was given by KRLCC Vice President Bishop Dr. Sebastian Thekkamthecheril. The event also included the distribution of scholarships from the KRLCCBC Faith Training Commission.
