Keralite Nun Appointed Superior General of Italy Based Venerini Congregation

Kannur: In a proud moment for Kerala’s Christian community, Sister C.C. MPV, a Keralite nun, has been elected as the new Superior General of the Venerini religious congregation, headquartered in Italy. The announcement was made during the General Chapter currently underway in Rome.

Sister C.C. MPV, hailing from the Vyakulamatha Parish in Kannur and a member of the Muringamyal family, was previously serving as the first Provincial of the Indian Province of the Venerini Sisters. She also held the position of Vicar General under the outgoing Superior General, Mother Eliana Massimi.

The leadership team will also include another Malayali, Sister Brigitte Vadakkepurakkal, who has been appointed as General Councilor for the MPV in the North. Sister Brigitte, who was the first Malayali to become Provincial of the Indian Province, had recently served as the administrator of Venerini Higher Secondary School near Farook College in Kozhikode.

The Venerini Sisters, officially known as the Religious Teachers Venerini, were founded by Saint Rose Venerini in 1685 in Viterbo, Italy. The congregation is active in multiple countries including Italy, the United States, India, Albania, Romania, Cameroon, Nigeria, and across Latin America, focusing primarily on education and social upliftment.
