Grief and Protests: Heart-Wrenching Farewell for Mithun Amid Outrage Over Tragic School Incident

Kochi: Deep sorrow and heartache gripped Nedumbassery Airport on Saturday morning as Suja, mother of 13-year-old Mithun who tragically lost his life to electrocution at school, arrived from Kuwait. The grief-stricken mother landed at 9:30 AM and was met by a tearful family reunion. The most poignant moment came when Suja, overwhelmed by emotion, broke down upon seeing her youngest son, who was waiting with other relatives.

She was immediately escorted to her native home in Kollam, where a larger community has been awaiting her return amid an atmosphere heavy with mourning. Suja is expected to reach home by noon, ahead of the final rites scheduled later in the day.

Mithun’s body, currently kept at Sasthamkotta Taluk Hospital, has been brought to Thevalakkara Boys’ High School the very place where the fatal accident occurred for public homage until 12 noon. From there, a sorrowful procession will carry him to his home in Vilandhara, where the cremation is planned at 5 PM in the family compound.

The tragedy has sparked widespread public outrage. Local organizations and community leaders continue to voice their anger over what they claim was sheer negligence on the part of the school authorities. Protests are intensifying, with demands for accountability in Mithun’s death, which has become a chilling reminder of unsafe conditions in educational institutions.

Mithun’s untimely death occurred when he attempted to retrieve a shoe that had fallen onto the roof of the school’s bicycle shed. Unaware of the live electric line above, the boy was fatally electrocuted. Though rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors could not save him.

As the community mourns the loss of a young life full of promise, the call for justice grows louder, with many urging a thorough investigation and stronger safety measures to prevent such tragedies from ever repeating.
