New Delhi: Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has issued a strong caution to the Rajasthan Royals, calling any move to part ways with star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson “suicidal” for the franchise’s future.
Speculation has been rife that Samson, the Kerala-born skipper of the Royals, may be heading towards an exit before the next IPL season. Reports suggest the 29-year-old is contemplating terminating his contract with Rajasthan to potentially join the Chennai Super Kings.
“If the talk about releasing Sanju is true, it’s a dangerous path for Rajasthan,” Srikkanth warned. “They’ve built their team around him, paying a massive amount to secure his services. Letting him go would completely disrupt the team’s balance.”
Amid whispers of a rift between Samson and India head coach Rahul Dravid, Srikkanth stressed that Samson’s value extends beyond Rajasthan. “Sanju is, in my opinion, the best candidate to carry forward MS Dhoni’s legacy,” he said. “If Dhoni plays one more season before stepping aside, Sanju could be the ideal successor. Of course, if CSK has already committed to Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain, then they should continue with that plan.”
The comments have injected fresh drama into the IPL off-season, with fans keenly watching whether Rajasthan will hold firm or risk losing their skipper to a rival camp.
