Buenos Aires Schools to Distribute New Book on Pope Francis’ Humanism

Buenos Aires, Argentina :  The provincial government of Buenos Aires has announced the distribution of a new 168-page book titled “The Teacher: The Humanism of Pope Francis” to both public and private schools across the province. The initiative aims to honor the legacy of Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, 2025, by introducing his ideas and values to younger generations within the educational system.

Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof, speaking at the launch event on August 12, stated that the measure will ensure that “the pope’s thought will be present in all schools in Buenos Aires province.” The project was developed under the direction of the province’s General Directorate of Culture and Education.

Alberto Sileoni, Director General of Culture and Education, described Pope Francis as “an educator who conveyed his teaching through ideas and actions, promoting the pedagogy of inclusion and encounter throughout his life.” He further praised Francis as “an Argentine concerned about the life of his peoples and a school that embraces, teaches, and leaves no one out.”

Archbishop Gustavo Carrara of La Plata commended the book for effectively capturing the essence of the late pontiff’s thought and serving as a valuable resource for communicating his message. Contributions to the book also came from Father José María Di Paola and educator Adriana Puiggrós, who offered their reflections on the life and work of Jorge Bergoglio.

The publication features selected messages that Pope Francis addressed to various sectors of society and incorporates excerpts from the Global Compact on Education, connecting his humanistic vision to broader international educational principles.

Authorities believe the initiative will strengthen the province’s educational framework by integrating values of empathy, inclusion, and social justice into school curricula, ensuring that the spiritual and moral legacy of Pope Francis continues to inspire future generations.
