Changanassery: A grand celebration awaits tomorrow at St. Mary’s Metropolitan Church, Changanassery, as the Syro-Malabar Church community comes together to honor the Silver Jubilee of Archbishop Mar George Kochery’s episcopal service. Having spent decades representing the Holy See as Apostolic Nuncio in various nations, Archbishop Kochery now leads a retired life in his hometown, yet continues to inspire with his pastoral presence.
The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Archbishop Kochery himself. Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil will deliver the homily during the Eucharistic celebration, reflecting on Archbishop Kochery’s mission and contributions to the Universal Church.
A general assembly will follow the Mass, with Archbishop Mar Thomas Tharayil offering the introductory address. The session will be presided over by Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, while Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangat will deliver the benediction.
The occasion will be graced by the presence of several prominent Church leaders including Archbishop Mar Joseph Perunthottam, Bishops Mar George Rajendran, Mar Thomas Padiyath, and Mar Jose Pulikkal. Dignitaries such as Vicar General Monsignor Antony Ethakkat, MLA Adv. Job Michael, Assumption College Principal Dr. Rani Maria, SH Congregation Provincial Sister Catherine, and Archdiocesan Pastoral Council Joint Secretary Dr. P.V.J. Rome will address the gathering.
The program will also feature the screening of a commemorative documentary, dedication of a Mangalapatra (felicitation scroll), a book release, cultural performances, and a community love feast making it both a spiritual and festive tribute to Archbishop Kochery’s 25 years of episcopal service.
