New Delhi: As the Indian cricket team gears up to announce its squad for the 2025 Asia Cup tomorrow, speculation is mounting over whether Test captain Shubman Gill will feature in India’s T20 line-up. Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has weighed in, urging selectors to include Gill, citing his proven talent in the shorter format.
“Shubman Gill is a talented player in T20 as well,” Harbhajan remarked. “He demonstrated his abilities consistently in the IPL and showcased the responsibility expected of him, both as a player and as a captain, during the recent English series.”
Selectors, however, face a tough puzzle. India’s T20 batting roster is already brimming with in-form and explosive batsmen, including Abhishek Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Tilak Verma, captain Suryakumar Yadav, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Each of these players brings impressive strike rates to the table: Abhishek Sharma (193.84), Suryakumar Yadav (167.07), Yashasvi Jaiswal (164.31), Hardik Pandya (141.67), Tilak Verma (155.07), and Sanju Samson (152.38).
In comparison, Shubman Gill has featured in 21 T20 matches so far, holding a strike rate of 139.27. While his numbers are slightly lower than some of his contemporaries, Harbhajan emphasized that Gill’s adaptability, temperament, and leadership qualities make him a valuable asset, capable of anchoring innings and providing stability in high-pressure scenarios.
With the announcement imminent, the cricketing community eagerly awaits whether Gill’s inclusion will strike the balance between experience, technique, and firepower in India’s T20 squad for the Asia Cup.
