New Delhi: Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), drawing the curtain on a remarkable 17-year-long journey in the tournament. The 39-year-old cricketer confirmed the decision through a social media post, describing it as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
“My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin said while bidding farewell to the league that shaped much of his T20 career.
Ashwin, who made his IPL debut in 2009, went on to play over 220 matches across multiple franchises, including Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Rising Pune Supergiant.
