Kenyan Bishop Urges Religious Sisters to Embrace Humility at Jubilees and Perpetual Profession

Nairobi: Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sagwe called on religious sisters to embrace humility and continue striving for spiritual growth during celebrations at the Mukumu Grounds of the Mother House in Kakamega Diocese. The event honored 14 sisters taking Final Vows, seven celebrating their Silver Jubilee, and one marking her Diamond Jubilee.

Addressing the sisters, Bishop Obanyi emphasized that these milestones are not the end of their journey but the beginning. He said that consecrated life is a continuous pursuit of God and urged the sisters to remain focused on Jesus Christ, the source of grace, and to seek the crown of righteousness through dedication and prayer.

The bishop highlighted the importance of humility, community life, and interior spiritual development. He reminded the sisters that their mission and strength come entirely from God’s grace, not their own efforts, and encouraged them to cultivate a restless desire to listen to God’s word and live in unity with their communities.

Bishop Obanyi also drew lessons from St. Augustine, emphasizing that true conversion and overcoming sin require reliance on divine grace and interior reflection. He urged the sisters to prioritize their spiritual life, maintain unity within their communities, and dedicate themselves to service and evangelization.

The ceremony served as a reminder that consecrated life is not defined by milestones alone but by ongoing commitment, humility, and service in the path of discipleship.
