Kanjirappally: Archbishop Sebastian Vaniyapurackal, recently appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Kalyan, paid a pastoral visit to his home diocese of Kanjirappally, Kerala. During the visit, he reflected on his early years and expressed gratitude for the support and guidance he received from his family and the local diocese.

The Archbishop described his family as his “first home” and the Kanjirappally diocese as his “second expansive family.” He acknowledged the influence of spiritual mentors, including Mar Joseph Powathil, Mar Mathew Vattakuzhy, Mar Mathew Arackal, and Mar Joseph Pulikkal, whose guidance and prayers shaped his path in the Church.

Recalling his formative years at Marymatha Minor Seminary, Archbishop Vaniyapurackal highlighted the encouragement he received from both clergy and laypeople. These experiences contributed significantly to his pastoral approach and strengthened his connection with the community.

During the visit, Archbishop Vaniyapurackal also met Fr. Mathew Erathat, former rector of the Minor Seminary, seeking his blessings. The day concluded with a Holy Mass at the Marian pilgrimage center in Old Church, continuing the tradition of the Eight-Novenas.

The visit was organized by Fr. Stanley Pulluolickal, Director of Pastoral Animation, Fr. Philip Thadathil, Procurator, and Dr. Juby Mathew, Secretary of the Diocesan Pastoral Council. The Archbishop’s visit emphasized his deep-rooted connection to his origins and his commitment to promoting spiritual growth within the diocese.
