Kanjirappally: Kanjirappally witnessed a moment of celebration and spiritual warmth as Mar Sebastian Vaniyapurackal, newly appointed Metropolitan of the Kalyan Archdiocese, was warmly received at the Kanjirappally Diocesan Center. The pastoral center brimmed with clergy, monks, faithful, and family members, all gathered to honor a shepherd whose journey of faith and service has left a deep imprint on the local Church community.
The reception commenced with Mar Sebastian Vaniyapurackal leading a midday prayer service at the diocesan chapel, inspiring the faithful with his prayers and reflections. Following this, the formal reception was presided over by Mar Jose Pulikkal, Archbishop of the Diocese, who warmly recounted the years Mar Sebastian spent nurturing faith and preaching the Gospel through personal example and genuine relationships. “We entrust the Archdiocese of Kalyan to God’s will, confident that He has appointed a shepherd with a heart for His people,” said Mar Jose Pulikkal.
The former superior, Mar Mathew Arakkal, praised the divine providence that gifts the Church with pastors after God’s own heart, acknowledging Mar Sebastian as a spiritually skilled and compassionate leader poised to guide the faithful of Kalyan. In his response, Mar Sebastian Vaniyapurakkal expressed gratitude for the prayers and support of the Kanjirappally diocesan community, emphasizing that their fellowship and encouragement inspire him as he embraces this new ministry. Vicar General Fr. Joseph Vellamattom also extended his warm greetings to the assembly, highlighting the unity and devotion that mark the Kanjirappally Diocese.
Adding to the joy of the occasion was the presence of Mar Sebastian’s father, Thommankoch, who, at the remarkable age of 101, graced the gathering with his blessings. Brothers, sisters, clergy families, monks, vicars, diocesan representatives, and staff of the Pastoral Center participated, reflecting the deep ties of faith and fraternity within the community. The reception arrangements were coordinated by Chancellor Rev. Dr. Mathew Shauryamkuzhi, Procurator Fr.
