Women’s Commission of Bhopal Archdiocese Elects New Leadership Team

Bhopal: The Women’s Commission of the Archdiocese of Bhopal held a significant gathering at the Pastoral Centre, where new office bearers for the 2025–2028 term were elected under the guidance of His Grace Dr. Sebastian Durairaj, Archbishop of Bhopal. The meeting was graced by the presence of Sr. Lidwin Fernandes, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Women’s Commission, who joined the Archbishop in presiding over the session dedicated to strengthening the role of women in the life of the Church.

The day began with a solemn prayer and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, setting the tone for a reflective and purposeful assembly. Sr. Dr. Jisha Ann Maria extended words of welcome to all participants, followed by inspiring messages from Fr. Maria Stephen, Dean of Bhopal Deanery, Sr. Metilda, and Mrs. Agnes Francis. In his inaugural address, Archbishop Durairaj highlighted the importance of women’s active participation in Church life and encouraged the members to embrace leadership with dedication and service.

Following the spiritual and motivational opening, election procedures were outlined and the members of the Commission proceeded to vote through a secret ballot conducted under the supervision of Fr. Ishwardas Minj, Vicar General of the Archdiocese. After a prayerful process of discernment, the results were declared, announcing the new leadership team for the three-year term. Ms. Binsy George was elected as President, supported by Ms. Asunta Toppo as Vice President, Ms. Shashi Nagle as Secretary, Ms. Sandhya Bara as Joint Secretary, Ms. Sheeba Shaji as Treasurer, Ms. Asunta Rafferty as Joint Treasurer, and Ms. Asha Raja as Media Coordinator.

In a gesture of appreciation, the assembly expressed deep gratitude to the outgoing leadership for their years of selfless service and commitment to empowering women within the Archdiocese. The outgoing team included Ms. Agnes Francis as President, Ms. Premshila Minj as Vice President, Ms. Neha Varghese as Secretary, Ms. Mildred Xess as Joint Secretary, Ms. Saji Joseph as Treasurer, Ms. Juliana Ekka as Joint Treasurer, and Ms. Jackqline Francis as Media Coordinator. Their contributions were recognized as laying a strong foundation for the Commission’s future growth and mission.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Commission agreed that a formal handing-over ceremony would be organized at a later date, with details to be coordinated by the Vicar General. This gesture underlines the spirit of continuity and collaboration that defines the Commission’s work.

The gathering concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks and a final prayer, closing the meeting on a note of unity and renewed commitment. With its new leadership, the Women’s Commission of the Archdiocese of Bhopal embarks on a fresh chapter of service, focused on empowering women, fostering participation, and deepening their role in the spiritual and social life of the Church.
