Egypt and Tunisia Sign Eight Agreements to Boost Bilateral Trade to $1 Billion

Cairo: Egypt and Tunisia have taken a major step to strengthen their economic and diplomatic ties by signing eight cooperation agreements during the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint High Committee held in Cairo on September 11, 2025. The agreements cover multiple sectors, including health, export development, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), youth and sports, social affairs, and consumer protection.

The two countries have set an ambitious goal of doubling their bilateral trade volume from $500 million to $1 billion within the next two years.

The agreements on health and medical sciences aim to enhance healthcare services and promote medical research collaboration between Egypt and Tunisia. An agreement on export development will facilitate trade, reduce barriers, and promote the international presence of Egyptian and Tunisian products.

Support for SMEs will foster entrepreneurship and innovation through joint initiatives and shared resources. Two executive programs focusing on youth and sports for 2026–2027 were signed to encourage youth engagement and sports development in both nations. Agreements in social affairs and consumer protection aim to strengthen welfare measures, market surveillance, and consumer rights. Additionally, a memorandum was signed between Egypt’s Institute for Diplomatic Studies and Tunisia’s International Diplomatic Academy to enhance diplomatic training and exchanges.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly emphasized that the agreements aim to develop joint investments and encourage entrepreneurs in both countries to create strategic partnerships across key sectors. The deals also include provisions for customs duty exemptions, prevention of double taxation, and promotion of science and technology to facilitate smoother trade and investment flows.

Analysts expect that the strengthened partnership between Egypt and Tunisia will contribute to regional stability and economic growth. The successful implementation of these agreements could serve as a model for other countries in the region seeking to enhance bilateral cooperation and achieve shared economic goals.
