Detroit: Ford Motor Company has announced a major recall affecting 101,944 Taurus sedans in the United States due to a potential safety hazard involving the B-pillar door trim. The recall specifically targets vehicles from model years 2016 through 2019, where the trim on the driver and front passenger doors may detach while the vehicle is in operation. Ford has classified this as a serious concern, as detached trim could pose risks not only to occupants but also to other road users if the pieces fall onto the roadway.
The recall comes following a safety alert issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday. According to NHTSA, the detachment risk is linked to potential weakening of the door trim attachment over time. While no accidents have been directly reported due to this issue, authorities stress that the possibility of road hazards and injury cannot be ignored.
Ford has instructed its dealers to inspect all affected vehicles and replace or repair the B-pillar trim at no cost to customers. Vehicle owners will be contacted directly by the company to schedule service appointments. The automaker emphasized that it remains committed to safety and customer satisfaction, urging all affected drivers to promptly bring their vehicles for inspection.
This recall follows a similar action taken earlier this week by Stellantis, which recalled nearly 164,000 Jeep vehicles in the U.S. due to a similar risk of detached door trim. Analysts note that such proactive recalls reflect a broader industry trend of addressing safety concerns before they escalate into accidents, reinforcing automakers’ responsibility to maintain rigorous safety standards.
Ford officials have reiterated that the company is monitoring all vehicles closely and will continue to collaborate with NHTSA to ensure the safety of all drivers and passengers on the road.
