Kerala Police Warns Against Fake Online Shopping Sites on Social Media

Kerala: The Kerala Police have issued a caution to internet users about the rising threat of fraudulent shopping websites that exploit the names of leading e-commerce platforms on social media.

Fraudsters are taking advantage of the excitement around major online sales and discounts, creating websites that mimic legitimate e-commerce portals. At first glance, these sites may appear genuine, but customers who place orders on them risk losing money.

Authorities advise users to verify the authenticity and legality of any website offering unusually low prices before making purchases or transferring funds. Careful attention should be paid to the website’s address, and users should avoid clicking on links received via WhatsApp, SMS, or social media that claim to direct them to popular e-commerce sites.

In the event of falling victim to online shopping fraud, the Kerala Police urge immediate reporting by calling 1930. Prompt reporting, ideally within one hour of the incident, significantly increases the chances of recovering lost funds.

The Kerala Police continue to remind the public that vigilance and verification are the best defenses against cyber fraud.
