Istanbul: Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Company, is reportedly considering a complete divestment from its Turkish delivery startup, Getir. The potential exit encompasses Mubadala’s stakes in Getir’s core grocery delivery operations, its car rental division Getir Arac, and the fintech arm Getir Finans. Sources familiar with the matter say the move follows mounting tensions between Mubadala and Getir’s founders over conflicting visions for the company’s restructuring.
According to industry sources, Mubadala is in advanced discussions to sell its stake in Getir Arac to Turkish mobility firm Tiktak. Concurrently, multiple potential buyers, including U.S.-based DoorDash, have expressed interest in acquiring Mubadala’s holding in Getir’s primary delivery business. While talks remain confidential, the development signals a major shake-up in the ownership of one of Turkey’s fastest-growing delivery platforms. DoorDash declined to comment on the reports.
Mubadala became Getir’s largest shareholder after investing in the company in 2021. At the height of its valuation in 2022, Getir was estimated at $12 billion, but the startup faced financial pressures as demand softened and it withdrew from international markets. In 2024, Mubadala extended a $330 million loan to support the company’s operations.
Tensions escalated in early 2025 when Mubadala proposed a restructuring plan to separate Getir’s core and non-core operations. Getir’s founders resisted the plan, resulting in a protracted legal dispute and a deepening power struggle within the company. The current discussions over a full exit appear to be a culmination of these unresolved conflicts.
A Mubadala exit could fundamentally reshape Getir’s governance and strategic trajectory. Divestment from the sovereign fund would not only alter the company’s financial backing but also potentially pave the way for new investors to influence its expansion plans in Turkey and beyond. Analysts suggest that the resolution of these disputes could determine whether Getir regains momentum in a competitive delivery market or continues to face operational and strategic challenges.
As talks progress, industry observers will be closely watching the final structure of any divestment and its broader impact on the Turkish delivery ecosystem.
