Autopsy Mafia Busted in Uttar Pradesh, Four Arrested and 31 Health Centers Sealed

Sambhal:  A major corruption racket involving doctors, pharmacists, and morgue staff, popularly termed the "autopsy mafia," has been unearthed in Sambhal. The gang allegedly manipulated postmortem reports for financial gain, charging around ₹50,000 to either cover up murders or frame innocent individuals.

Authorities have arrested four people connected to the racket and sealed 31 illegal health centers as investigations continue. The case came to light when Satyavir Singh discovered that his father, Ramvir Singh, had been murdered, but the postmortem report had been tampered with and the file went missing, leaving the culprits unpunished.

Further investigation revealed a network of fake autopsy reports, fraudulent clinic registrations, and extortion. Low-level government hospital staff issued bogus registration certificates to illegal clinics and demanded "annual renewal fees" ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, threatening legal action or violence against those who refused to pay. Some suspects were found to have amassed considerable wealth through these illegal activities.

Authorities have filed 19 FIRs and are continuing to probe the assets and operations of the accused. The incident has sparked calls for urgent reforms and stricter oversight in medical and legal procedures to prevent exploitation and ensure justice.
