Urgent Appeal for Education Support for Displaced Children in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou: Burkina Faso is facing a growing humanitarian crisis as hundreds of children displaced by ongoing violence require urgent assistance to continue their education. Br. Alain Toughma, a delegate of the Missionary Brothers of the Countryside (F.M.R) in Burkina Faso, has appealed to Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) International for support for over 200 students in Pama, a town in the country’s eastern region.

The Missionary Brothers have previously received assistance from ACN, which covered school fees for 222 students and provided essential food aid to displaced families. With the start of the new school term on October 1, an additional 235 children now require immediate support. Last year, ACN’s aid included four months of food supplies per household, consisting of maize, rice, salt, and oil.

Br. Toughma emphasized the importance of investing in the youth, noting that supporting children in education is a crucial effort for the future of the community.

The security situation in Burkina Faso remains fragile despite slight improvements, as terrorist attacks have been ongoing since 2015. Many regions continue to be affected by violence, leaving residents unable to return home due to mined roads and unsafe conditions. The Fada-Ngourma region, near the borders with Togo and Benin, remains particularly unsafe. Christians, along with the general population, face serious threats in areas affected by terrorism.

Humanitarian organizations continue to call for support to ensure displaced children can access education and basic necessities amid the ongoing insecurity.
