Bengaluru: Veteran journalist and acclaimed writer T.J.S. George, a towering figure in Indian media, passed away on Thursday at the age of 97. Revered for his incisive commentary, satirical insights, and fearless approach to journalism, George’s demise marks the end of an era for Indian newspapers and editorial thought.

Born on May 7, 1928, in Kerala, George began his journalistic journey in 1950 with The Free Press Journal in Mumbai. Over the decades, he carved a niche for himself through a combination of analytical depth, cultural awareness, and an unflinching commitment to truth. His career took him beyond India, where he became the founding editor of Asiaweek in Hong Kong, further cementing his international credentials.

George was best known in India as the Editorial Advisor of The New Indian Express and for his celebrated weekly column, Point of View, which he wrote consistently for 25 years until 2022, continuing his literary and journalistic contributions well into his 90s.
