Rev. Dr. Robert Thomas Puthussery Re-elected as General Councillor of the Order of Carmelites

Angamaly: Rev. Dr. Robert Thomas Puthussery has been re-elected for a six-year term as the General Councillor representing the Asia-Oceania-Australia region, including India, of the Order of Carmelites (O. Carm.). The election took place during the General Chapter held recently in Malang, Indonesia.

Alongside his election, Rev. Dr. Desiderio García of Spain was elected as the new Prior General. Councillors for the Americas, Africa, and Europe were also chosen during the chapter.

Rev. Dr. Robert Thomas Puthussery, originally from Mookkannoor parish near Angamaly, is the youngest son of the late Ouseph-Evuprasiya couple. His re-election reflects the trust and confidence placed in him by the Carmelite community across the region.

The General Chapter, which convenes every few years, is the highest decision-making body of the Carmelite Order and plays a crucial role in shaping its leadership and direction worldwide.
